Thursday evening Ambassador Næss attended the book launch of Amanda Slevin’s new book ‘Gas, oil and the Irish state’. The book is a study of the Irish state’s model of gas and oil management, and the event took place at the Public Service Centre in Letterkenny. Ambassador Næss was invited to give a speech about the development of Norwegian society after the discovery of oil-resources in the 1960s, and what lessons the Norwegian experience can provide for future management of natural resources. The session also involved a presentation on Nigerian oil- and gas policies, by Kevin O’Hara, founder of the Centre for Corporate and Social Responsibility in Nigeria. The book launch was a major success with a turnout of more than 80 people, and the presentations was followed by a lively debate on Irish oil- and gas policy.
