In conjunction with the International Academy of Ceramics General Assembly, Norwegian Crafts were invited to curate an exhibition of ceramic works in Dublin Castle.
The selected artists are Corrina Thornton, Lillian Tørlen and Katrine Køster Holst. The curators are Gjertrud Steinsvåg, who is Director of International Projects at Norwegian Crafts, and Susan Holland, Exhibition & Outreach Officer at the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland.
Dublin Castle was until 1922 the seat of British rule in Ireland, and is now a major Irish government complex. About the location the Norwegian artist Lillisn Tørlen says:
- I am humble to exhibit my art in this beautiful place.
Tørlen's art installation is called “Resonance” and is to be found at the Courtyard Archway. She has responded to the site with a ream of paper made of porcelain. These are caught by the wind, scattered and held momentarily on the walls.
- This is a space where nobody dwells, but rather drifts through moving from one place to another. This is why I chose this spot, says Tørlen.
British Corrina Thornton lives and works in Bergen. Her installation “The Coach House will become an echo for memories” is located in the Morrision Room in The Coach House.
Danish Katrine Køster Holst lives and works in Drammen/Vestfossen. Her installation “Since Thursday” is to be found in The Chapel Royal.
