Scholarships and Bursaries to Irish Students

There are three main scholarships offered from Norwegian Governmental bodies to Irish students. Please note that there may be other scholarships available through other institutions. Also, the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education will give information regarding studying in Norway and on general recognition of foreign degrees.

The Norwegian Government Scholarship Pool

The Norwegian Government offers a pool of scholarships for advanced students and young researchers within the framework of the bilateral cultural agreement.

Application forms for these scholarship are available early in the year, and should be sent to the International Section of the Irish Department of Education and Science, before their given closing date. For more information see the Research Council of Norway.

The International Summer School

The Oslo International Summer School is an academic centre for learning in an international context, and a forum for fostering intercultural understanding. Every summer from late June to early August it welcomes some 500 students from all over the world to its wide variety of graduate and undergraduate courses, mostly within the liberal arts and social sciences.

The Norwegian Research Council offers a scholarship for two Irish students whenever the yearly State Budget allows for it. Application forms for the Summer School are available early in the year, and should be sent to the International Section of the Irish Department of Education and Science, before their given closing date.

The Memorial Fund of May 8, 1970

The Memorial Fund of May 8, 1970 offers bursaries to young people between 18 – 22 years of age for a one-year stay at a Norwegian Folk High School or similar non-specialist school. The completed application form should be forwarded to the Embassy or sent directly to the Memorial Fund before the closing date, 1 November.
